We made it to the end of the week and the first official game day of 2024. This first game of the year is very important because each team plays differently in the second half of the season. They either have gotten better or gotten worse and we want to make sure that we make a statement that we’ve improved. I woke up at 10:00 am which is a decent time for me because it’s not too early or too late. I made myself a hearty breakfast to fuel myself for game day, it included grits eggs, and bacon. After breakfast, I put on my game-day outfit and headed to the gym. I arrived at around noon, so I ordered my favorite Starbucks drink and door-dashed it to the school. From 12:00-1:00, I sat in the locker room and chatted with my team about how they were feeling about today’s game. They were all so pumped we started joking around, playing music, and dancing. At 1:00 I brought them onto the court where we started our pregame warmup. We do stationary and dynamic stretching. We then do drills that contain running to get them warmed up and loose. At around the 20-minute mark, we brought them into the locker room and gave the matchups since we’re playing man today. We then told them what we expected from them today and spread some positive words of wisdom. Tip-off started at 2:00. As the game is going I’m writing down stats such as turnovers, missed layups, fouls, etc. The game ended at around 4:30 and we ended up winning by a lot. In our post-game talk, we spoke about how proud we were of our girls. The coaches and I were impressed with the way we started 2024. We went over the stats from the game and talked about what we’re going to do on our day off tomorrow. We all left at around 7:00 and enjoyed the rest of our Saturday night.
