Today was an early start for me. I woke up at around 7:00 a.m. and arrived on campus at about 8:30. We had team breakfast together where we had all sorts of varieties such as waffles, bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, and much more. As we were eating, my staff and I received a very sad phone call from the coach of the team we play today. It appeared that one of the players on our opponent's team had a death in the family. It was her mother who was a huge part of their program. They took the loss hard and decided to postpone the game. After all, it was their best player who was going through this and I didn't expect them to play without her. We understood and supported them with their decision. It turns out that player was once my teammate in my sophomore and junior years of college. She is the sweetest person ever so I felt extremely bad for her and her family. I decided to reach out and send my condolences to her as well as keep her and her family in my prayers. Now that we don't have a game after all today it gives us more time to prepare for that team. We decided to have a light shoot-around and play some music to brighten up our spirits after hearing such horrible news. We shot around from about 9:00-11:00 and decided to surprise the players with some ice cream. We talked and joked around until about 12 when we all headed home.
